Mark Powell is a Writer / Director from Southern California, and a partner in the multimedia design firm Humble Giants. For the past ten years he has actively participated in the world of design and advertising; focusing mainly on youth marketing and action sports. It was Mark's love for world cultures and surfing that led him to spend a year in Australia, where he ultimately discovered his passion. While attending a design conference in Sydney, he was inspired to work with moving images and made the decision to pursue filmmaking.

When he returned stateside he enrolled in Chapman University's Graduate Film Conservatory, with an emphasis in Directing. After studying the craft for only a short time, his design clients -- impressed by his new talents and abilities -- began hiring him to create their commercial spots. Mark has since collaborated with cinematographers and animators to create unique motion graphics and live action commericials. In addition, Mark has directed four notable short films, including Cannonball, Monochrome, Finnegan’s Wake, and Southern Point.

Working with Mark, I worked on the design & development/coding of his debut directorial website. This is the first time all of his work has been compiled together. We designed the site to have a constant moving background to re-inforce the idea of motion. We used a custom video player to host and show off his short videos, commercial and narrative work. The site is bare-bones and puts the focus where it should be - on the work.
